Today on Home & Family
Friday, October 25th, 2013
Catherine Cassidy, editor-in-chief of "Taste of Home," makes a detour in LA to stop by "Home & Family" today. She's going on a cross-country trip to collect recipes nationwide for the book "Recipes Across America." Catherine shares a homey mac & cheese creation from a military mom whose son requests this dish whenever he visits home from a tour of duty. Then, Catherine cooks a midwestern huli huli chicken recipe with a side of roasted root vegetables. And, you can wash it down with horchata, a traditional Latin American drink made from raw rice.

First Date Fashion Tips
Style and trend expert Anya Sarre & former "Fashion Police" host Debbie Matenopoulos share tips on how to make a great impression on a first date. Whether you're in your teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, or beyond, they have outfits and accessories to flatter your figure if you're ready to mingle. Anya and Debbie also tell you what every woman should carry in her purse. With style like this, you won't be single for long!
Find out where to get these looks>>
1. Remember the "sit test!" Check how you look in your first date outfit while sitting and standing.
2. Wearing long, layered necklaces makes you look slimmer.
3. Don't buy a new outfit for a first date! Wear something you already know looks great and will hold up throughout the night.
4. You don't need to wear a dress on the first date…the right pair of jeans can suck you in and flaunt your curves.

The Carey Bros.
The Carey Bros. show us how to slash our utility bills with proper insulation materials. In fact, 50-70% of the energy used in your home goes into heating and cooling. Even a small amount of correctly installed insulation can drastically cut your energy bill and reduce your carbon footprint.
Traditional pink fiberglass insulation is not the best for the environment, but today there are lots of eco-friendly, cost-effective choices. The Rock Wool and Cellulose insulations are great options and can even be made from ground up old jeans!
Air gaps equal huge losses in energy efficiency and you want to use a spray foam insulation to get those little air pockets that are costing you money!
All you need is a simple dry wall patch. Just remember to drive the nails in at 6-inch intervals to secure the drywall and to use drywall tape to compensate for the expansion and contraction of the drywall and save your paint job down the road!
Stay tuned for details on how you can win your own custom Carey Bros. bathroom renovation.
Until next time, be sure to visit www.onthehouse.com for more with The Carey Brothers.
